Obedience

Yakutian laikas are amazingly obedient dogs. They are easy to train with the right motivation. For the best results in various types of dog training, it is necessary to establish contact between the dog and a person from early childhood.

In the training of the Yakutian laikas it is useful to be able to redirect their hunting instinct to people and toys. They are not overly active (not fussy) during training, and have no problems with periods of rest a(which is typical for almost all working breeds)

Yakutian laikas are very smart and quick-witted, they learn quickly, are hardy and patient.

Search and rescue

Yakut Laika has an amazing sense of smell, able to distinguish the subtle nuances of odors. This ability has been developed by many generations of dogs, which were shud to serve man in the hunt and protection of the home from wild animals. For the search work is important the ability to manage the instincts and natural abilities of these dogs. Yakutian Laika is very hardy and able to work for many hours without a break. Their natural ability to bark can be used to indicate found objects and people. Yakutian Laika is able to think and find a solution in real actions.

Herding instinct and competition for the shepherd's service

From 2018, the Yakutian Laika officially began to be tested for the herding instinct according to international rules - NHAT.

To date, 3 dogs have been tested, all showed the highest degree of instinct severity.

Two dogs continue training on the herding working test of traditional style – HWT TS.

The FCI Herding Dogs Commission at its meeting in 2019 will recommend including the Yakutian Laika to the list of breeds allowed to compete in the International Herding trial

IPO/IGP

Protective guard duty is not the best occupation for the Yakutian Laika. They can be trained sport protection, but only for self confidence and drive. Since aggression is not desirable among representatives of this breed.

Dog sledding sports

Since 2005, Yakutian laikas take part in competitions in dog sledding sports, in snow and snowless disciplines. They are perfectly manifest themselves, and, perhaps, they have no equal, at long distances. In addition, they also show excellent results in sprint races, competing on equal terms with the Siberian Huskies and other sledding breeds. In Russia and European countries (in France and Poland) they receive working certificates and champion titles in working qualities.
